The only thing to recommend this place are the views to the south of the Mendip Hills and we gather other comments the cream teas. However you wont want to stay here.

A dead TV set old garden furniture and numerous cardboard boxes left around the courtyard greeted our arrival and a sixfoot teddy bear in full highland regalia stood in the hall. Our 1st floor room immediately at the head of the stairs was dreadful. Entered via an unlit lobby we admired the unmatched and peeling wallpaper a rotten window frame with only one windowcatch working but with one of its screws missing the other catch painted shut. A bedroommirror with a light over it but no pull cord no light at all for the bathroom mirror. No shaver socket nor towel rail heated or otherwise. A yellow bath & toilet complimented the avocado basin all dirty. Hair in the plug hole complete with mandatory spider and a ring around the bath. Around the basin taps was encrusted brown limescale. Next to the loo on the floor a dish with a dirty old cloth in it (we didnt inspect it too closely). Broken window pane in both bedroom and bathroom. Faded pictures on the wall hung at about 7ft off the ground.
The complimentary tea sachets of unknown brand had scarcely any taste. We hoped for better things at breakfast but the dining room was gloomy despite its lurid gloss blue ceiling and yellow/black warning tape glued along the step to the orangery. Small pots of jams obviously refilled were on the table one was blackcurrant and full of fruit. Would it be as good as it looked? Nope absolutely no taste whatsoever. Ditto the tea (were they refilling the tea bags as well?) ‘though to be fair the scrambled egg was good as was the bacon. When we came to pay we said we didnt expect such poor and grubby accommodation in a hotel and were surprised to be told "This is not a hotel its a home!"

Not a good excuse we felt as we keep ours much cleaner and in far better repair despite not having paying guests to stay.
